Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment (formerly WCI Home Video, Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment) is the home video distribution division of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, itself part of Warner Bros. Discovery. It was founded in 1978 as WCI Home Video (for Warner Communications, Inc.). The company launched in the United States with twenty films on Betamax and VHS videocassettes in late 1979. The company later expanded its line to include additional titles throughout 1979 and 1980.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment gained the video rights to Tom and Jerry in 1999 and all of the other pre-1986 assets from MGM that got acquired by Turner in 1986, about three years after the Turner-Warner merger on October 10, 1996 and when MGM's video rights to its former pre-1986 assets eventually expired in 1999.
