Not to be confused with Beach Bully.

"Beach Bully Bingo" is the twenty-ninth episode of Tom and Jerry Tales directed by Neal Sternecky, written by Richard Pursel and storyboard by Bob Foster and Neal Sternecky.

Synopsis[]

Tom and Jerry's day at the beach is rudely interrupted by Spike and Butch, so they devise a plan to turn them against each other.

Plot[]

Tom and Jerry settle their differences and take a vacation at their local beach, meeting an unnamed female cat and mouse there whom they are instantly smitten with. However, Spike and Butch arrive and absent-mindedly get in their way. Jerry angrily bites Butch's tail, starting an argument between him and Spike, during which they discover Tom and Jerry and throw them into a trash can, saying only "locals" are allowed. Angered, Tom and Jerry hatch a plan to further play Spike and Butch against each other to trick them into leaving them some space on the beach.

Tom and Jerry whisper, respectively, into Butch and Spike's ears and set up a makeshift fighting ring. While Spike appears more muscular, Butch's creative tactics give him the upper hand. The initial fight ends with them both rolling through the arena net into various sand models. Victorious, Tom and Jerry shake hands.

Butch and Spike then try to outdo each other by hitting each other with the sand models, which ends with Spike trying to pick up a life-size sand boat and Butch causing its anchor to fall on him. Both continue attacking each other, but are caught by an angry squid. They witness Tom and Jerry, having abandoned them and eating chocolate ice-cream bars with their respective girlfriends.

Characters[]

Trivia[]

  • Butch and Spike are shown to be very muscular in this episode. Spike appears to be very beefcake looking, while Butch appears fit but still muscular. Spike is more muscular than Butch but he has more body fat. Butch isn't as pumped when it comes to the biceps, but he has very trained pecs and has well defined legs too. Spike maybe has bigger biceps and chest muscles but Butch has a more trained stomach, since he slightly has abs.
    • They're also the only two characters in the episode who have spoken dialogue.
  • Numerous elements could have been recycled from "Beach Bully", an episode of The Tom and Jerry Show (1975).
  • Butch's "fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee" line is a reference to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali's theme song ("Catch me if you can").
  • The Beach Bully didn't return in this episode, as Spike and Butch take his place.
  • A interesting thing that Butch (a cat) was flirting with Cherie (a mouse), while Spike (a bulldog) was flirting with Toodles (also a cat).
  • Tom returns to wear his old 1940s-style red bathing suit, this is the third time since Salt Water Tabby and Muscle Beach Tom.
  • Since Butch is so muscular in this episode, many fans confuse him as a different cat that looks like him.
  • In the end, Tom and his girlfriend share chocolate-dipped ice cream bars. In real life, chocolate is considered toxic to cats and also to dogs as well because chocolate contains theobromine, which it's hazardous to them.
  • The glaucous (moderate grayish-blue) female cat was believed to be Toodles Galore, except Toodles is often white or light gray. This could be a different entirely.
  • Segregation is a prominent plot device in this episode. Spike is the self-claimed ruler of the Southern side of the beach (the side Tom and the female cat were on) and forbids North beachers stepping foot on the Southern side, while Butch is the self-claimed ruler of the Northern side of the beach (the side Jerry and the female mouse were on) and forbids South beachers stepping foot on the North side, but both Spike and Butch forbid any non-locals, especially Tom and Jerry, from entering either side of the entire beach. The unofficial segregation of the beach and the unwelcoming atmosphere to non-locals ended up driving off the female cat and mouse, so they went to a nearby island instead.
    • Also another prominent plot in this episode is both Spike and Butch are at war with each others and trying over the others' side of the beach. Spike's trying to conquered Butch's side of the beach, the Northern side and exiles Butch and the North beachers from the entire beach and Butch trying to Spike's side, the Southern side as well and exiles Spike and the South beachers from the beach.

Goofs[]

  • In the shot where the viewer(s) see the remote island that Tom and Jerry are on, the scene is shown in 15 frames per second instead of the usual 24 frame per second, hence resulting the shot in question to have rather jerky movement. Also, the ocean isn't properly looped.
